Jeff Bezos' company Blue Origin has completed an online auction for a seat on the New Shepard spacecraft. The winner paid $28 million to participate in a suborbital flight with the billionaire and his brother Mark.
The Blue Origin auction started on June 7 with 7,600 participants from 159 countries. The amount paid by the winner will go to the Club for the Future Foundation, whose mission is to inspire future generations to pursue careers in science and engineering.
The winner of the auction will be announced within a few weeks after the auction ends. After that, the fourth crew member will be announced. It is unknown yet whether it will be a professional astronaut or one of the auctioneers. The New Shepard is scheduled to fly on July 20.
