In May this year, it became known that Tom Cruise would fly to space in October 2021 to shoot in a movie by director Doug Liman. As part of the SpaceX Crew Dragon Axiom Tourist Flight, Tom Cruise and Doug Liman will travel to space to then film aboard the International Space Station, NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine revealed.
This could make this movie the first ever to be filmed in space if everything goes according to plans.
However, it seems like Tom Cruise is about to have a competitor because Russia aims to send an actor to space in 2021, too, and thus beat Hollywood.
The thing is that Channel One is teaming up with Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, to shoot a movie called Challenge, which aims to send an actress to outer-space in October 2021. The ideal actress for the movie should be between the ages of 25 and 40 and be physically fit to travel to space for the film. There is no need to be a professional actress, but only Russian citizens will be considered for the part.
The actress must also weigh between 50 and 70 kilos and have a “chest girth” of up to 112 cm. She must be able to run 1 kilometer in less than three-and-a-half minutes or so, swim 800 meters freestyle in 20 minutes, and be able to dive from a three-meter springboard.
